This is a two-step project that runs as the final "proper" assignment in my ADV 93 Design Fundamentals class. Students identify a story based on the theme of Borders, shoot a series of photos and edit in Lightroom with the option of further manipulation in Photoshop. They then move to InDesign where they gain experience in layout design and visual storytelling.
This exercise is their first attempt at telling stories visually with little or no text. As an introduction to working in series and thinking about composition, rule of thirds, color consistency and sequence, students begin to think about story-telling as integral to the advertising process.
I have embedded my Spark assignment brief, intro to visual storytelling slide deck, Lightroom and InDesign workshop slide decks, final outcome example and student work.
